For some years the department of Graphic Design and Illustration at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design has held an annual competition in co-operation with the telecom company Ericsson to make a diploma for their employees of the year. 2018 my design was picked as the winner by Ericsson.
History
The building where the art school Konstfack is located today was before the factory of LM Ericsson from 1940 to 2004. It's been called one of the most beautiful functionalist industry complexes in Stockholm. Today Ericsson is a Swedish multinational networking and tele-communications company still headquartered in Stockholm.
Creative investigation
I found some abstract icons of some of Ericsson main themes interesting to work with as a decorative element.
Result
With the functionalist history of Ericsson in mind I chose a modernistic look for the typography with a grid and Helvetica. The material black acrylic plastic was chosen by me because of its elegant appearance in the context of a diploma. It was engraved and cut out with laser in 215 x 275 mm.
